The Scholar Witch from Transylvania: A Journey of Learning, Healing and Teaching
Welcome.
My name is Dr Daciana Indolean, and I am the founder of Purple Jade Holistics.
People who knew the old me (Senior Lecturer at the most prestigious Technical University from Transylvania) often ask me how I became involved in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tai Chi, Qigong, Chinese Astrology and the Yi Jing. The answer is both simple and surprising.
In many ways, this path found me long before I consciously chose it, and long before I tormented future engineers.
The Girl Who Found a Book
I was born and raised in Transylvania, a land rich in folklore, history and a deep respect for the mysteries of life.
When I was eight years old, I discovered a book on Chinese acupuncture in my father’s library. I was fascinated by the diagrams of meridians, the concept of Qi, and the idea that health could be understood as a dynamic balance between body, mind and environment.
Most children would have put the book back on the shelf and moved on.
I did not.
Something about this ancient wisdom captured my imagination and never let go.
What began as curiosity gradually became a lifelong journey of study, practice and discovery.
A Lifelong Love of Learning
As a daughter of my father, a Doctor in Mathematics and Senior Lecturer himself, education has always been one of the guiding forces in my life. My academic path eventually led me to complete a PhD in Education and I ended up teaching and evolving in the same university like my father before me.
And yet, as rewarding as an academic career can be, my soul was still dreaming about the wisdom and traditions of China.
Over the years, I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, TuiNa Massage, Chinese Nutrition, Tai Chi, Qigong, Mindfulness, Life Coaching, Chinese Astrology (BaZi) and the Yi Jing (Book of Change).
Although these disciplines may appear very different on the surface, I discovered they all seek to answer similar questions:
How do we live well?
How do we remain balanced during times of change?
How do we understand ourselves more deeply?
And how can we cultivate a meaningful and fulfilling life?
These questions continue to inspire my work to this day.
A New Chapter
Life has a way of opening unexpected doors.
When I met Anthony, a British Armed Forces Veteran who would later become my partner in life and my greatest supporter, I made the decision to leave Romania and begin a new chapter in the United Kingdom.
Like many meaningful journeys, it was both challenging and rewarding.
Leaving behind a familiar life required courage, but it also created opportunities that would shape my future in ways I could never have imagined.
In Manchester, I trained at Shulan College of Chinese Medicine, completing over 300 clinical hours in Acupuncture and TuiNa Massage while continuing to expand my knowledge through additional studies and professional development.
What began as a childhood fascination was steadily becoming a vocation.
The Purple Jade Path
In 2015, I founded Purple Jade Holistics with a simple vision:
To create a place where ancient wisdom could be made practical, accessible and relevant for modern life.
Today, my work brings together several complementary disciplines:
• Traditional Chinese Medicine principles
• Chinese Astrology (BaZi)
• Yi Jing consultation and interpretation
• Tai Chi and Qigong
• Yang Sheng (the art of nourishing life)
• Mindfulness and personal development
Rather than offering quick fixes, I help people develop greater understanding of themselves, their strengths, their challenges and the opportunities available to them.
I believe that lasting transformation comes not from forcing change, but from learning to work in harmony with our own nature.
What I Believe
I believe that wisdom should be practical.
I believe that health is cultivated rather than chased.
I believe that self-awareness is one of the greatest gifts we can develop.
I believe that ancient knowledge still has an important place in the modern world.
And I believe that every person possesses far more resilience, wisdom and potential than they often realise.
My role is not to tell people what to do.
My role is to help them see more clearly so that they can make informed choices and walk their own path with greater confidence.
In many ways, I see myself as a lighthouse.
A lighthouse does not steer the ship.
It simply illuminates the way.
Supporting Those Who Serve
As a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, I hold a special appreciation for veterans, serving personnel, carers and those who dedicate their lives to supporting others.
Many of my clients are people who spend so much time caring for everyone else that they forget to care for themselves.
Helping them restore balance, clarity and wellbeing is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
